Project Success: Vespel Upgrade on BW/IP BB5 Boiler Feed Pump
PSS Group recently completed a Vespel upgrade on a BW/IP BB5 boiler feed pump driven by a Dresser Rand steam turbine at our Rayong facility. This comprehensive upgrade involved replacing all case rings, center bushing, and throttle bushings on the 9-stage pump.
 Results at a Glance:
Flow Increase:Â +6% (from 211 to 224 cubic meters/hour)
Pump Efficiency Boost:Â +11%
Steam Consumption Reduction:Â -7.5% (from 21.2 to 19.5 tons/hour)
Why Vespel? Vespel is a high-performance polymer known for its exceptional wear resistance, low friction, and ability to withstand extreme temperatures. When used in pumps, it reduces clearance between rotating and stationary parts, minimizing leakage and improving hydraulic efficiency. The material’s self-lubricating properties also reduce energy loss due to friction, leading to significant efficiency gains. This translates into better flow rates, reduced energy consumption, and overall enhanced pump performance.
The outcome? Enhanced performance and significant energy savings for our client. Another engineering solution delivered with excellence!Â
